A few weeks ago, I was invited to try out the SmartCoffee App. The app was created by the found of Thanksgiving Coffee Company, Paul Katzeff. With it, you can pick out the flavors, acidity, & taste that you like and it will suggest the perfect coffee for you. The app also has a coffee glossary, a blend archive of all the blends recommended for you, a blending tool that shows you how to create a custom blend from the bulk coffee at the supermarket, and much more. Now, I’m gonna let you in on a secret: I don’t drink coffee. This is why I review so much tea here on the site. About the only coffee I will drink, on limited occasions, is either Waffle House coffee or the Maxwell House International Latte power stuff (and even that is drowned in so much frothed milk that there is very little coffee left to taste). The idea behind the app intrigued me and being a non-coffee drinker, I wanted to see if it would pick out something that I would actually like. I used the app on their ...

Product Review – Rid Tech Ultrasonic Pest Repeller
A few weeks ago, I was sent a Rid Tech Ultrasonic Pest Repeller to try out and review. The repeller uses ultrasonic sound waves to repel pests like mice, rats, roaches, and more. The sound waves are at a low frequency so you or your pets can’t hear it, and it's a good alternative to using chemicals & sprays. We have a hard time with bugs and other pests getting in, especially at this time of year. It seems like we are almost always spraying the baseboards, and we usually have to fog bomb the house at least once during the summer. We’ve considered getting sonic devices (or squeakers, as my dad calls them) in the past, but didn’t want to put up with the sound all the time. This is the first that I’ve seen that doesn’t make an audible sound, so it sounded like a great solution. One repeller will cover a normal sized room. I put the repeller in the dining room, since that is where the most bugs seem to get in from. A little green light comes on at the bottom, and it really ...
Movie Review – Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts
A few days ago, I was sent a copy of Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts on Blu-ray combo pack to watch and review. In this newest movie, Batman teams up with Green Arrow, Flash, Nightwing and Red Robin to take on the Animilitia. The Animilitia is a villainous group composed of Silverback, Cheetah, Killer Crock and Man-Bat, & led by Penguin. Penguin also has a pack of cybernetic animals to help him out as well. Who will win the showdown? This one is based off the new Batman toy line that is out, and I think is based in its own universe. A lot of the designs, tech, & landscape remind me strongly of Batman Beyond…which is pretty good since that was a great show. Also adding in that extra Batman Beyond vibe is Will Friedle (Terry McGinnis/Batman), who voices Nightwing. It’s also a bit of an origin story for Penguin (voice by the great Master Shake himself, Dana Snyder), who is a new villain in this story. He is introduced to Bruce & Oliver at a fund raiser, during which he ...
Product Review – Vita Sciences Maxasorb Melatonin Cream
Last week, I was sent a 1.7 oz bottle of Vita Sciences Maxasorb Melatonin Cream to test out and review. The cream is designed to increase sleepiness, decrease the time needed to fall asleep, and increase sleep duration. One pump of the bottle gives you a night’s dose that you can rub on your arms or legs. One bottle contains 60 doses. I have severe insomnia and usually have to take a prescription in order to fall asleep. Lately I’ve been taking an over the counter sleep med, due to looking for a new doctor so I can get a new prescription. I’ve tried taking melatonin in the past, but after a while it became ineffective as my body got used to it. I was hoping that this cream might be a better alternative to what I have been using. The first night that I used it, I put it on the inside of both my arms. I had a really busy day to I was exhausted by the time I got into bed (sometime after 12:30). I’m not sure how long I was awake once I laid down, but I fell asleep pretty fast and ...
Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales: Surf’s Up Scooby-Doo! Review & Giveaway [ENDED]
A few days ago, I was sent a DVD copy of Scooby-Doo! 13 Spooky Tales: Surf’s Up Scooby-Doo!, the newest release for Scooby-Doo. The gang head out to a Florida beach resort for vacation…and to attempt to cure Fred of his net obsession. They see an obscene amount of net-themed decor, food, beaches, and a sea monster?! Will the gang solve the mystery, or will they be all washed up? Plus there are another 12 episodes to watch, and all of them share a nautical theme. My daughter has absolutely loved this DVD set, and I’ve already lost track of how many times she’s watched it over the past few days. Surf’s Up Scooby-Doo! was hilarious. I loved the whole net obsession with Fred. Who hasn’t thought that about him at least once over the years? They also have a good bit at the beginning with everyone trying to get to his front door & having to dodge traps. It was also great to see some many episode of the original series included too. I grew up watching them, and my daughter was ...
TV Review – The Mentalist Season 7
Since 2008, audiences as followed the escapades of Patrick Jane (Simon Baker), a consulting member of the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation). For the first six seasons, he hunted serial killer Red John and was finally able to get revenge for the death of his family…but at the cost of becoming a fugitive. After 2 years on the run, Jane returns to the US to work for the FBI and to the woman he fell in love with, Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney). The final 13 episodes of The Mentalist find Jane & Lisbon dating and working cases together for the FBI, as well as getting married. I haven’t watched The Mentalist in a long time, so I still have quite a lot to get caught up with. But the final season has closed out the series very well. I don’t want to give out too many spoilers for those who haven’t seen any of the episodes yet…making this review exceedingly difficult to write. The final episodes see Jane and Lisbon take their relationship to the next level and travel around solving ...
