A few days ago, I was sent an early Blu-ray copy of PAN from Warner Bros. PAN is a prequel story to Peter Pan, telling the origin story of both Peter and Captain Hook. Peter is a 12-year-old rebellious boy living in an orphanage during WWII London. After running afoul of the matron, he is taken by pirates to Neverland. Once there, he learns that he is destined to be a hero and defeat Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman). With the help of Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a miner named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must learn who he is & believe in himself in order to save Neverland. I wasn’t sure what to except with this movie. I had heard a little bit about it, and most of that wasn’t good. So I tried to keep an open mind when I watched it. My daughter sat down with me to watch it too (she’s 5). The movie jumps right into the action from the beginning. We are treated to a London air raid, which is followed up by the London Air Force chasing a flying pirate ship around the skyline. Even ...

Sheriff Callies’s Wild West Review & Giveaway
Sheriff Callies’s Wild West is a new show that is currently airing on Disney Junior. Callie, a Calico cat, is the sheriff of “Nice and Friendly Corners”. Along with Deputy Peck (a woodpecker), Toby (a cactus), and her trusty steed Sparky, she protects the town from train robbers, noodle tornados, and more. The first DVD of episodes, Howdy Partner!, contains 5 episodes of the show & also includes a free pop-up play set. My daughter loves this show, and was thrilled to get the DVD. The show itself is very cute. Each episode has a musical number, many of which are sung by Callie who is voiced by Mandy Moore (Rapunzel in Tangeled). Each episode teaches important lessons about fairness and good morals, and there are lots of laughs. Overall, it’s a very good show for young children and worth checking out. Howdy Partner! is available on both DVD & Blu-ray. I received the above mentioned product for free to help facilitate my review. All opinions are 100% my own. The ...
TV Review – The Flash Season One
A few weeks ago, I was sent a copy of The Flash: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray to watch & review. When Barry Allen was a child, his mother was murdered. The assailant was a man in yellow moving at superhuman speed, but no one believed him & the murder was pinned on his father. Years later, Barry is now grown up & working as a CSI tech. One night, he is struck by lightning from the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion and ends up in a coma for 9 months. When he awakens, she discovers that he also now has super speed, which he uses to stop others who developed powers from the explosions & solve the mystery of his mother’s murder. I fell in love with this series from the moment I watched an advanced viewing of the first episode last year, and didn’t miss a single episode. The plot, story arcs, cast, and special effects are all superb. There are a lot of funny moments, with a good chunk of them from Cisco (played by Carlos Valdes) trying to come up with ...
TV Review – Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season
Last week, I was sent a DVD copy of Supernatural: The Complete Tenth Season. Season 10 was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the boys. Six weeks after the season 9 finale, Sam has to hunt down the now demonic Dean in order to perform a ritual to save him. After the ritual is completed, Dean has his humanity back but he still carries the Mark of Cain, which is slowly try to turn him evil. Meanwhile, Castiel is dying & goes out searching for a cure with Hannah. I enjoy watching Supernatural, but usually end up missing a lot of the episodes. I really enjoyed getting the full set so I could get caught up, and thought that this was the best season yet. There is a lot of action & I really liked watching Dean fighting/struggling with the Mark of Cain. Crowley, everyone’s favorite daemon, has been promoted to series regular, so you get to see a lot more of him…which is always a treat in and of itself. I think my favorite episode from this season was ‘Fan Fiction’, where the boys ...
TV Review – The Originals: The Complete Second Season
Last week, I received a Blu-ray copy of The Originals: The Complete Second Season. The series is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, and follows the Mikaelson family as they struggle to take back control of New Orleans. The second season follows after the events of the first. Werewolves now rule the French Quarter for the first time in centuries, and Klaus is plotting revenge and vows to do anything necessary to protect Hope, his newborn daughter…even if that means war. I have never watched The Vampire Diaries or The Originals before, so I had a lot to catch up on. I hit up all the Wikis I could find in order to get all the background I could on the characters & the first season. There is a lot between both shows & I’m still a little lost on some stuff, but the series is very interesting. The story lines are very interesting, and the show has a lot of dark & humorous moments. I really enjoy the interplay between the vampires, werewolves, and witches. The special ...
Movie Review – Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts
A few days ago, I was sent a copy of Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts on Blu-ray combo pack to watch and review. In this newest movie, Batman teams up with Green Arrow, Flash, Nightwing and Red Robin to take on the Animilitia. The Animilitia is a villainous group composed of Silverback, Cheetah, Killer Crock and Man-Bat, & led by Penguin. Penguin also has a pack of cybernetic animals to help him out as well. Who will win the showdown? This one is based off the new Batman toy line that is out, and I think is based in its own universe. A lot of the designs, tech, & landscape remind me strongly of Batman Beyond…which is pretty good since that was a great show. Also adding in that extra Batman Beyond vibe is Will Friedle (Terry McGinnis/Batman), who voices Nightwing. It’s also a bit of an origin story for Penguin (voice by the great Master Shake himself, Dana Snyder), who is a new villain in this story. He is introduced to Bruce & Oliver at a fund raiser, during which he ...
