Keep Momming
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Shire. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. The relationship that exists between mothers and daughters is unlike any other. It has many unique moments, memories, and yes, even challenges along the way. The relationship dynamic can be even trickier when your daughter is in those tween-age years. What can be even more difficult is when some people dismiss certain behaviors as “typical tween girl behavior” when those behaviors can be symptoms of something more serious. Research suggests that girls are more likely than boys to report having mostly inattentive Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Since inattentive symptoms can be less noticeable than hyperactive and impulsive symptoms, it is important that moms know what to look for. I’m proud to be joining forces with Shire, CHADD and Holly Robinson Peete to announce the launch of keep momming, a new public service ...

Product Review – UV Sight Ultraviolet Blacklight
A few weeks ago, I was sent a UV Light. It’s a blacklight flashlight that you can use to find pet stains, ‘people stains’ in hotel rooms, or any other marks that you wouldn’t normally be able to see. The UV light is the size of a small flashlight and has a very bright beam. I tried it out in my kitchen first. I didn’t see much aside from the areas around the cupboard handles and where I hadn’t cleaned the stove up. There were several spots on the floor that showed up where there were old paint stains. It showed up red and freaked me out at first until I realized what they were. The big test came when were went on vacation. We rented a condo down in Port Aransas. We weren’t overlay impressed with the place because they misrepresented it a bit on the site. That first evening, I decided to run the UV light around in the kitchen. Unfortunately, it lit up like a Christmas tree…so I am assuming that the staff doesn’t really clean it up too good between renters. We scrubbed everything ...
Book Review – Prince Iggy and the Kingdom of Naysayer by Aldo Fynn
Prince Iggy and the Kingdom of Naysayer is a kid’s story by Aldo Fynn. It’s geared for ages 8 to 12. Iggy Rose is horribly bullied on a daily basis, even by his teachers. After having his once possession, a ring, taking by King Naysayer, he finds out who he really is and winds up going on fantastical adventure. The story is very imaginative and well written. You sympathize with Iggy right from the start, being that he seems to be the only person with any sort of moral compass. Everyone else thinks its okay to lie, cheat and do whatever they want. Since he is so drastically different, he is bullied as a way to break him enough to conform…and for the bullies own personal amusement. He is affected in the beginning but as his character develops, he realizes that the bullies were wrong and he gains confidence. All of the other characters were also well written and developed. The plot moves along well too. The illustrations by Richie Vicencio are also very good and help bring scenes to ...
