The Goodnight Undercover Mission — Stop Bedwetting

September 3, 2013

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of GoodNites for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Potty training sounds easy, but it can be a bit tricky for some.  I ended up having to have gummy bears & stickers on hand to get my daughter to stay on the potty long enough to go.  Even then, she found it more amusing to go streaking through the house yelling “I’m naked!” (when she says it, it comes out ‘naken’) at the top of her lungs & waving her shorts around.  But, at long last she got it.  She has no problem using the bathroom at home or other people’s houses; she’s just deathly afraid of public restrooms…not that I can blame her. I thought that once she was trained that I was done with the hard part.  Not true.  The hard part is getting through bedwetting. Bedwetting happens sometimes and I have a hard time explaining to my daughter that it’s okay when it does.  For her, it only happens when she’s very tired after a busy day or has had to take some sinus ...

Book Review – Noah’s Rainy Day by Sandra Brannan

September 1, 2013

Noah’s Rainy Day by Sandra Brannan is the 4th book on the Liv Bergen mystery series.  Liv has completed training at Quantico and is now an FBI Agent.  She is immediately tossed into a case with Streeter Pierce, her lover Jack Linwood, and her bloodhound Beulah.  She finds herself in a race against time to find a 5-year-old who went missing from Denver International Airport.  Meanwhile her nephew Noah Hogarty, who has severe cerebral palsy, is convinced that there is something going in with the quiet new girl across the street.  When no clear way to communicate his suspicions, he decides to take matters into his own hands…because that’s what his aunt would do. I am always excited to read Mrs. Brannan’s books, and this definitely didn’t disappoint.  There is a lot of action and mystery throughout the story and, as always, it keeps you literally glued to the story.  I couldn’t put it down.   There was a bit of a change in writing style for this one.  Normally, only Liv is presented in ...

Interview with Sandra Brannan

August 31, 2013

Last month, I had the opportunity to ask one of my favorite authors, Sandra Brannan (pictured above), some  questions in relation to her upcoming book Noah's Rainy Day.  I've never done an author interview before.  I had absolutely no idea what to ask her, which is silly since my best friend is a published author and I constantly pick her brain about her books.   After a few days of thinking, I finally had a list of questions.  I wasn't sure if she would answer the more spoilerish questions about the book I came up with, but I figured that I would ask anyway.  But, my worries were unwarranted.  She answered everything & gave lots of insight to the publishing world, her inspiration, & even a bit of background about herself.  She even visited the site!  "Your website is awesome!  Where were you when I was a first time mom??" So, without further ado, here is the interview: 1.  What inspired you to first start writing? I don’t know if you could call it inspired or desperate ...

Popular Hair Fashions

August 30, 2013

Hair fashions are constantly changing with the times.  What was in last week may not be all the rage this week.  Right now, there are two particular fashions that are hot: hair chalk & hair feathers. Hair chalk comes in either sticks, which I have reviewed in the past, or pots.  They are available in just about every color imaginable, but the brightest shades are the most popular.  When using sticks, all you have to do is rub them on wet hair.  For pots, you just use a make-up brush.  Once you have all the desired color, simply use hairspray or a heat tool to make the color stay in.  It will wash out the next time you wash your hair.  Hair chalk is great since its temporary.  It’s give you the chance to try out a color before you decide to dye it in permanently.  You also have the freedom to change colors whenever. Hair feathers are exactly what they sound like: feathers for your hair.  They are semi-permanent and are similar to hair extensions.  You can go to a salon and ...

Book Review – Where They Bury You by Steve Kohlhagen

August 30, 2013

Where they Bury You is the newest novel by Steve Kohlhagen.  It’s a historical fiction based around the death of Major Joseph Cummings, who was the Provost Marshal of Santa Fe during the Civil War.  He was found in an arroyo near what is now the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado, Arizona with roughly what would be millions in today’s money in his saddlebags.  Officially, it is said that Cummings was shot by an Indian & there wasn’t much of an investigation at the time due to the war.  However, over the ensuing years, more information his come to light that question who Cummings was and where his activities were during the war.  Mr. Kohlhagen mixes history with fiction in his take on events leading up Cummings’s death, and has created a wonderful novel that is a mix of Civil War, western & mystery novel. The novel has several different storylines that eventually all come together.  It starts with the conflict between Cochise, Chief of the Chiricahua Apaches, and the Army.  ...
