Domain Scamers from China

scamBe on the lookout for emails from huynic.org. Thought the email seems legitimate on first glance, they are Domain Scamers from China.  I was contacted by them a few days ago and sent an initial reply since I didn’t know it was a scam.  After reading the scammers reply, I started looking into it and found out about the scam.  They try to get you to register a bunch of domain names and a brand name through their site, ripping you off.  I know for a fact that no one can pull your domain as long as you have it registered.  I wasn’t too sure about the brand name, but found that its protected on a first use basis.

They contacted me again tonight, and I told them that I was aware that it’s a scam and if they contacted me again I would report them to the Feds.

Anyway, here are the emails:

First email:

From: Tony <tony@huynic.org>
To: misadvmom <misadvmom@yahoo.com>
Sent: Wednesday, June 6, 2012 8:00 PM
Subject: Urgent: Concerning “misadvmom” Brand Name dispute

(If you are not the person who is in charge of this, please forward to the right person/ department, as this is urgent, thank you.)

Dear Director,

We are the department of registration service in Asia. Currently, we have a urgent issue needing to confirm with your company.

On Jun 6, 2012, we received an application formally. One company named “Touzi Management Group” wanted to apply for the Brand Name “misadvmom” and some domain names through our body.

After our initial checking, we found the Brand name and domain names being applied are as same as your company! So we have to confirm with you at two points:
1. If the aforementioned company is your business partner or your subsidiary, please DO NOT reply us, we will approve the application automatically.
2. If your company have nothing to do with the aforementioned company, they maybe have other purposes to register the Brand name and domain names.

Currently, we have postponed this application of this company temporarily already. In order to deal with this issue better, please let the responsible officer contact us as soon as possible.

Second email after I replied that my stuff is not for sale:
From:Tony

Subject:Re: Re: Urgent: Concerning “misadvmom” Brand Name dispute
Dear —————-,

Many thanks for your confirmation. I reply you as following several aspects:

1> If you don’t have any relationship with “Touzi Management Group”. According to our working experience, either they invest in domain names, just like someone registered google.cn&google.com.cn to get high reward several years ago, or they do the same business as you, so to confuse your customers and get profit.

2> We knew you have registered the domain name “misadvmom.com“, this is why we informed you. But now they wanted to apply for other domain names and Brand Name. Following are all the domain names and Brand Name which are submitted by “Touzi Management Group”:
Brand Name:
Misadvmom
Domain Names:
misadvmom.cn
misadvmom.hk
misadvmom.tw
misadvmom.com.au
misadvmom.asia
misadvmom.net
misadvmom.de
misadvmom.co.uk
misadvmom.eu
3> As a domain name registry service organization, we have no right to reject any individual or entity to register these domain names through our body, Because domain name registry is open all over the world, that means “who register first, who own first”. But we should perform responsibility to avoid this cyber squatting. We also don’t hope any infringement violated to the interests of your company in future. If you think their registration will confuse your clients and harm your profits, you are supposed to secure your company’s benefit by registering them preferentially. If you confirmed to do so, please inform me to send a dispute application form to you and we will help you register these within the dispute period. If you don’t think their application will affect your company, you can give up, and we will follow up their registration.
Due to limited time, hope get your decision ASAP, if you have any question, pls contact me in time. Thanks for your cooperation.

Have you made a decision? Whether you will register these domain names and Brand Name or give it up? There is a time limit. Pls let us know your decision soon.

I’ve had the same email sent to me trying to register my brand name Zuma the Dog. Of course I intially replied saying it was my name and it’s not to be used anywhere else. They then kept harrasing me with emails saying I must use them to register my brand or they will sell it on. I ignored most of there messages know it was a scam after some reasearch and then politely emailed them saying “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are currently seeking legal advice and looking to purchase these names through our own domain name supplier”. The last email I recieved was quite threatening. If anyone recieves an email like this from these people please ignore it.

I have been hounded over the last few days by similar emails from Peter Sun re Fancy Management Group Ltd (HK) wanting to purchase brand and domains names for Belle Regali.
After some investigation it appears that Fancy Management Group Ltd was actually dissolved (‘struck off’ is the quote on the Hong Kong website) in July 2007.
Funny how Mr Sun is refusing to reply to this comment I emailed him.
Thank you for highlighting that this as a scam. I will now ignore it.
