The past few days have been way too busy! I spent most of Monday curled up in bed sick. I wasn’t feeling much better Tuesday when I had to get up at 5:30 in the morning to get to the appointment I had with the hand specialist. We had a hard time trying to find the place, and ended up driving past it at least 3 times before we realized it.
The hand guy was nice, and it wasn’t a long visit. After examining my hand, he said that it looks like everything is centered in the main thumb joint and then radiates out from there. The joint was inflamed all the way around, and he wasn’t sure what was causing it. He said that if you do something to tear the ligament, then it usually only hurts on that one side. He gave me a steroid shot and said that it should clear everything out, and that the pain shouldn’t come back. If it does, then we will go from there.
The shot wasn’t pleasant. He had to pull forward on my thumb while I pulled back so that it would open up the joint enough to get the needle in. I figured that he meant in ‘shallow’, not in to where most of the needle was in and if felt like a crowbar was in there trying to pry everything apart. And that was just the needle by itself. Once he stared forcing the steroid/numbing agent mix it, not only did it burn like napalm, it felt like my bone was being broken in a few places. Once the numbing stuff kicked in it wasn’t too bad. In fact, the joint hasn’t hurt in two days now. I still don’t have a full range of movement yet, but hopefully it will get better. I just need to keep on eye on it and let them know if the pain starts coming back.
After we left the office, Jason drove me out to the Pho 95 Vietnamese restaurant over in Dallas. It’s the one next to the Hong Kong Market over on Walnut. The soup was great, and I enjoyed going through the market. We got a whole bunch of stuff that I’d been wanting for cooking, and I got some bubble tea that was really good. The also had the infamous durian fruit. In fact, they had lots of it. There is a bit of a story here, but I’m going to save it for later.
Yesterday, I didn’t do much of anything and just sat around being mostly lazy.
