Book Review – Night Chill by Jeff Gunhus

June 25, 2014

Night Chill New Cover 7Night Chill is the first adult novel by Jeff Gunhus. He has previously written the young adult series The Templar Chronicles. Jack Tremont moves this family to Western Maryland in an attempt to restart his life after a terrible accident. However, he finds his family caught in a nightmare when a man targets his youngest daughter in hopes to strengthen an ancient, dark power. As Jack digs deeper into the past of the town, he discovers a dark secret that reaches farther than he could ever imagine. Unable to trust anyone, how far will he go to save his daughter?

Unlike his previous novels, this one is definitely not for kids. It is very dark, and focuses on a group of people doing sacrificial rituals in order to gain immortality. It was fast paced and very well written. The supernatural, mystery and horror all meshing into a very thrilling book and I wasn’t able to put down. The character development is exceptional and the plot never loses steam. You can’t help but feel for Jack while he struggles, not knowing who to trust, & when his wife completely abandons him. The Boss was also a great character with definite moral issues. His willingness to murder innocents in order to grant immortality and create a perfect human easily alludes to Hitler, and is one of the many themes in the story.

Overall, the novel was excellent and I highly recommend it if you are a fan of mystery, suspense, and horror. It is available in both paperback and ebook on Amazon. You can also keep up with Mr. Gunhus on his website.

I received the above mentioned book for free to help facilitate my review.
