Book Review – The Jack Stenhouse Mysteries by Frank A. Ruffolo

January 26, 2015

The Jack Stenhouse Mysteries by Frank A. Ruffolo is a murder mystery novel containing to novellas. In the first story, The Shadow of Death, we meet Jack, a detective with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. He’s gruff, prickly, and loves women. He is called in to investigate the discovery of the body of a woman found on the beach. The victim was killed with Black Mamba venom, which is incredibly rare. As more bodies begin to turn up, Jack finds himself dealing with a conspiracy with far reaching implications. In the second story, The Saturnalian Affect, Jack & DiDi have hit the Big Apple. In order to get his feet wet with the New York police, Jack is given a pair of cold cases. However, they may not be a cold as everyone thought. Before he knows it, he’s on the hunt for a killer obsessed with Greek mythology and only kills during the Feast of Saturnalin. The copy I received was an ARC copy, so there will probably be some changes to the final, published copy. Both stories were ...

So…Daily Posts, Eh?

January 26, 2015

Okay, I'm not doing so hot at the daily posts.  I'm trying.  My days just aren't interesting enough to write about all the time.  In fact, the most interesting thing that has happened this week so far is that neighbors kids (the ones who used to pee on the side of the house) crank called Domino's, ordered about $40 worth of pizza & put our address down.  The delivery lady was not happy at all.  I felt bad, but was not about to pay for it.  You'd think they would have outgrow this kind of stuff by now.  They are seniors in high school...although one of them knocked up his girlfriend so we get treated to their domestics out in the yard from time to time. Anyway, I'm going to try to come up with stuff.  Maybe cover our hilarious attempts to potty train out daughter, which I don't think I mentioned at all during that time almost two years ago.  I do know I will have stuff for tomorrow..or actually later today since it is after 1 am for me. ...

Book Review – Vampire Vacation by C.J. Ellisson

January 24, 2015

Vampire Vacation is the first book in The V V Inn series by C.J. Ellisson. It’s an adult urban fantasy/erotica featuring vampires, werewolves, and very adult situations…making this for readers 18 years and older. Vivian runs an inn in a remote area of Alaska and caters to a very unique clientele: vampires looking for a little rest & relaxation. It also doesn’t hurt that she has a way to make their fantasies and deepest desires come true while they are there (due to telepathic abilities she has to keep hidden). However, right before a large group of guests arrive, someone is murdered in one of the rooms. While juggling solving the murder and entertaining guests, she realizes that everyone is in danger from an old enemy. Will she be able to stop the killer without revealing her powers to her guests? This was definitely a very different read than what I am used to reviewing. I was hit with very graphic sex scenes within the first few pages, and it stayed that way until well into ...
