Spice Up Your Thanksgiving with Netflix!

November 12, 2013

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Netflix for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. If you haven’t heard of Netflix by now, then you’ve been living under a rock.  Netflix has thousands of movies that you can get on disk or stream to any device.  They are constantly getting new stuff all the time, so you will never run out of stuff to watch.  With their streaming service, you can watch your favorite movies and tv shows anytime you want on your iPad…kitchen, the big screen in the living room, or even on your phone while waiting in line at the grocery store.  Plus, with Netflix you can bring the family together this Thanksgiving with movies and shows you can watch while you’re waiting on your turkey. Recenlty, Chef Curtis Stone was created some recipes inspired from some of his favorite Netflix original programing.  One recipe, Freddy’s Sticky Saucy Barbecued Ribs, is from House of Cards, staring Kevin Spacey.  Here is the recipe:   Freddy’s Sticky ...

The Otter, the Spotted Frog, and the Great Flood Review & Giveaway [ENDED]

November 10, 2013

The Otter, the Spotted Frog, and the Great Flood is a new children’s story by Gerald Hausman & illustrated by Ramon Shiloh.  It based on the origin story of the Greek Indians of northern Florida and Georgia.  Listener the Otter is the only animal that heads the warning of Spotted Frog about the coming of a great flood.  As he begins to build a raft, he is ridiculed by the other animals.  Will the floods really come and will his efforts be enough to survive them? I loved the story.  It might be a bit long for very little children, but my daughter really liked it too (then again, she’s three and is having me read her The Hobbit).  The illustrations help bring the story to life as well.  They had amazing detail and fit with the book perfectly. The story has many moral aspects to it that can be interpreted in many ways.  Primarily, it’s best to have something and not need it, then to need it and not have it.  Also, if you had to means to do something and ignored it, then you ...

RSV — Facts & Prevention

November 8, 2013

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for MedImmune. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.   Respiratory Syncytial Virus, or RSV for short, is a contagious viral disease that may infect a person's lungs and breathing passages.  It is active throughout the year, but tends to spike in fall & winter.  However, this can vary depending on your location.  It is the most dangerous to small children, especially premature babies.  Studies have shown that an alarming number of parents have no idea what RSV is or that it’s a danger to their premature children.  Since preemies are born with undeveloped lungs and immature immune systems, they have a heightened risk for developing severe RSV, with often requires hospitalization.  World Premature Day is on November 17th, and I am helping spread the word about RSV, including symptoms and how to prevent it. Important Facts About RSV RSV typically occurs from November ...

Scary and Deadly Bugs — What Makes You ‘Bug Out’?

November 5, 2013

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Orkin Ecologist for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. Did you know that over 80 of the world’s species are bugs?  That means over 200 million for each person on the planet!  You might not think it, but they all play important parts in out ecosystem.  They eat waste, other bugs, carcasses & even trash.   If you want to lean about bugs I suggest checking out the Orkin Ecologist site.  It’s a great educational resource for all ages. I checked it out the other day and read an info graphic about the scariest and deadliest bugs in the world.  I knew that there are some crazy bugs out there, but after reading about these guys, I’m glad most of them are in other part of the world.  I’d be scared to death to go outside.  Some of the scary insects included the Human Bot Fly (which can live under the human skin for weeks), cockroaches, and the Goliath Bird-Eating Spider.  The Goliath Bird-Eating Spider looks like it came ...

Product Review — Ageless Derma Loose Mineral Foundation

November 5, 2013

A few weeks back, I was sent some loose mineral foundation from Ageless Derma.  The foundation is fine enough to be used in an airbrush, and can easily be mixed to make cream & liquid foundations.  It contains natural anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants to fight free radical damage, & give your skin a barely there glow. Since having my daughter, I don’t get out as much as I used to, so I don’t wear makeup all that often anymore unless it’s a special occasion or I’m trying to cover up a breakout.  I’ve never tried loose powder of any kind before, so this was a bit new to me. I ended up taking it with me to FenCon for use with my hastily put together costume.  For art of my costume, I was going to wear a pair of latex elf ears & I needed them to match my skin as much as possible.  After using my regular liquid foundation on them, I used the powder foundation on them to lighten out the color a bit.  I simply used one of my blush brushes to apply it.  It evened out the ...
