Last week, I was invited to try out Shari’s Berries, a site that sends out dipped strawberries, cookies, cakes & more. They run advertisements on tv during the holidays, so you may already be familiar with them. I’ve seen their commercials that are run at different times of the year, but have never really looked at the site before. I really only expected to see mostly strawberries, and was completely overwhelmed by all that they offer. They have everything from cupcakes to cookies, & even cakes and candy. I decided that since my daughter’s birthday is coming up (this weekend), I would get something for her. I viewed the Birthday for Her section, located on the Occasions menu tab. After looking through everything, I picked the Giant Gourmet Chocolate Chip Cookies. They will last her a while & I know that she will enjoy them. I then turned my attention to the strawberries, and got a half-dozen for myself & my husband (but mostly for me since he’s not all that ...

Product Review – Diet Doc
I was recently sent some pre-packaged weight loss food from Diet Doc. Diet Doc has a whole line of weight loss products that are all formulated to fit with an hCG diet. What is HCG? The food is said to come with everything already in it, so all you have to do is all in the meat. I got to pick three different meals: Steak Soup, Thai Chicken Soup & Chicken Gumbo.I was interested in try this out since it’s supposed to be healthy and it sounded like it would be a quick and easy fix. However, that wasn’t exactly the case. When it arrived (two and a half weeks late), I was surprised to find that it was three pouches of some sort of seasoning mix that has to be reconstituted in water before use. Each pouch had an accompanying half-sheet of paper with cooking instructions and a list of ingredients needed. For the most part, many of the extra ingredients are stuff that you may have on hand, like chicken broth. Other stuff you will have to go out and get special. For example, the ...
Product Review – UNREAL Candy
A few weeks back, I was sent some coupons so that I could try out UNREAL Candy. UNEAL is candy that has been ‘un-junked’. There is no corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, GMOs, preservatives, and it has a low glycemic index. Plus, each candy only has 16 grams of sugar per serving. Now, as with all healthy food, I was expecting it all the taste like crap and be really expensive. I also had to Walgreens to get some since there aren’t a lot of stores that carry it yet. Our local Walgreens only carried it on the large bags and I don’t think that the freebie coupons covered it. But the store was closing in less than three minutes and the kid at the counter gave it to me…plus gave me a free bag just to get me out of there (I need to shop there more often). Anyway, I picked up two bags of the peanut butter cups and one bag of the regular M&Ms. I tried the peanut butter cups first once we got home, and they just about knocked my socks off! They were so good! Even my husband ...
Food Review – Hoffbrau Steaks
A few days ago, I was given a $40 gift certificate to go and check out Hoffbrau Steaks. Hoffbrau is a steakhouse restaurant with several locations serving the DFW area, Granbury, Haltom City and Amarillo. We when to the North Dallas restaurant that just recently opened located on Campbell Road. We got there a little while before the dinner rush started, so we were able to sit right down and order. We started with the Sweetwater Shrimp, a jalapeno stuffed with a large shrimp, then wrapped in bacon and dipped in Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce, for our appetizer. Jason ordered the 10 oz Rib-Eye and I ordered the 8 oz Smoked Sirloin. Both of our dinners came with a side & salad. But enough of this…I’m going to let the pictures do the talking: Sweetwater Shrimp 8 oz. 'Ladies Cut' Smoked Sirloin 10 oz. Rib-eye The entire meal was excellent. The meat literally melted in your mouth. We ate everything, including the bread roles. Even ...
Product Review – Skillet Bacon Jam
I’ve tested many items in the two years that I’ve been publishing this blog. I’ve tested various food products, but nothing prepared me for Skillit Bacon Jam. According to their website, bacon is mixed with several other spices and then “rendered” down into their spread. The company started as a street vendor in Washington State, and has since branched out into a dinner and selling their spreads online & in some stores. Now, I love bacon and I would eat it with just about everything if I could. I’ve seen this listed for review on Tomoson for a long time, and finally allowed morbid curiosity to win out. I was hoping for, at best, something delicious that we could all enjoy. That wasn’t what I got . . . not by a long-shot. First of all, I would like to say that the picture of the container on Tomoson is quite nice. In fact, it’s the picture that I used above. Incidentally, they do not show you the actual bacon spread. There is good reason for that, apparently. The thing ...
Adding Fiber to Your Diet with Kellogg’s FiberPlus Cereal
As a stay at home mom, I'm constantly busy. I spend a better part of my day chasing a toddler around the house, and can never seem to get caught up on laundry and other housework. One of the major things that has gotten away from me is my diet. I ate very well during my pregnancy, but it completely fell apart after I had my daughter. For quite a while I was almost always skipping breakfast, eating junk food with lunch, and then eating way too much at dinner. Now that my daughter is starting to get a little older, I've been determined to set a better eating example for her...so I'm working on going back to my pregnancy diet. A good balanced diet consists of many things. You need to be taking in good amounts of calcium, protein, iron, and fiber. I've been working on limiting my portions and counting the amount of carbs that I'm taking in. I have done okay so far, but I haven't been getting anywhere near enough fiber. Fiber is important in your diet since it can help lower the risk ...
