A few weeks back, I was sent a Stainless Steel Compost Bin by Estilio to try out and review. The bin holds up to a gallon of waste & comes with carbon filters that fit inside the lid. The inside wall are smooth so that foods & liquids do not stick, and no chemicals will leach into the compost.
I’ve seen a lot of these popping up online & in stores lately. I have attempted to do outdoor compost bins & piles in the past without much success, so I was interested in seeing if an indoor bin on the countertop would work better for me. I was happy to find that it did.
The carbon filters are already inserted in the lid when you take it out of the box, and I quickly discovered how well they work. Over the course of several days, I managed to fill the bin up over halfway with stuff. Now, I don’t have a lot of counter space, so I was keeping it on the small bit of useless counter directly behind my sink…that way it was out of the way until I needed up. And like most of the stuff that gets put back there, I promptly forgot about it for close to three weeks. There was no odor coming from the pail at all. Once I took off the lid was a different story, but still…the filters work.
All I have to do once it’s full is carry it outside and dump it into my garden. There are bag inserts available to buy if you don’t want to have to rinse it out each time, but I don’t mind. Estilio also has replacement filters too.
Overall, it has been very handy. It doesn’t take up much room & hold quite a bit of kitchen waste. It’s available on Amazon for $26.99 (+ shipping).
I received the above mentioned product for free to help facilitate my review. All opinions are 100% my own.
