Last week, I was sent a 1.7 oz bottle of Vita Sciences Maxasorb Melatonin Cream to test out and review. The cream is designed to increase sleepiness, decrease the time needed to fall asleep, and increase sleep duration. One pump of the bottle gives you a night’s dose that you can rub on your arms or legs. One bottle contains 60 doses.
I have severe insomnia and usually have to take a prescription in order to fall asleep. Lately I’ve been taking an over the counter sleep med, due to looking for a new doctor so I can get a new prescription. I’ve tried taking melatonin in the past, but after a while it became ineffective as my body got used to it. I was hoping that this cream might be a better alternative to what I have been using.
The first night that I used it, I put it on the inside of both my arms. I had a really busy day to I was exhausted by the time I got into bed (sometime after 12:30). I’m not sure how long I was awake once I laid down, but I fell asleep pretty fast and stayed asleep all night. I was, however, pretty groggy in the morning for a while.
The second night, I wasn’t as tired as the night before. I used the cream as I did before and got into bed. I read for a while, and then tried to go to sleep. It took a few hours before I finally started to doze off. I no sooner dozed off when one of the neighbor kids started having a screaming match with his girlfriend right outside our window, probably waking up a good chunk of the neighborhood. After that, sleep was impossible & I was completely out of it most of the day.
I had the same issue the next few nights as well. I found that it works fine as long as I’m already exhausted. On other nights, it just wasn’t enough to help me doze off. One dose has 3 mg of melatonin, and I don’t think that it’s a high enough dose for me.
Overall, I didn’t have as much luck with the cream as others have had. It works as it’s supposed to when I’m really exhausted, but on other nights it doesn’t have enough melatonin in it to help me sleep. It’s worth a try to see if it works for you. I’m keeping it on hand since I know it will work sometimes. You can get info on this and Vita Sciences other products by visiting their website.
