Store-bought decorations can be costly, so crafty parents are using their creative skills to make beautiful and inexpensive decorations that help to transform kids’ bedrooms into magical spaces. From beautiful bunting to cozy cushions, be inspired with these simple crafts that will be sure to brighten up any child’s room.

Beautiful Bunting

Bunting provides an affordable way to add a whimsical feel to your child’s bedroom while also bringing some detail to sparse walls. You can customize the bunting to complement the existing decor in the room. For the best results cut different patterned fabric scraps into triangles and sew them onto a single piece of ribbon. You can even have your little one help you with the project by customizing the bunting with buttons, sequins, bows, and other embellishments.

Light it up!

Christmas lights aren’t just for Christmas; you can incorporate them into your child’s bedroom to create a cozy and inviting space that they will be sure to love. The great thing about Christmas lights is that they can be used in the room in all sorts of ways. If you want to create a special bed area that is fit for a princess, you can drape some sheer fabric over the bed to create a canopy and then use the Christmas lights within the canopy to illuminate the area and make it more inviting. For some high quality Christmas lights at the best prices — and some neat lighting ideas — take a look at ChristmasLightsEtc.com.

Wall Transfers

Bring the room to life with some pretty transfers that you can easily apply on the walls of your child’s bedroom. Choose nature inspired decor for a cute touch look that little girls will adore, or try animal themed decals to incorporate into a jungle themed room. There are also removable wall transfers available that let your kids play around with transfers without permanently marking the walls.

Organizer Chalkboard

A lovely decoration that doubles as an organizer is a hanging chalkboard. You can purchase the board ready-made and decorate it with your own paint; alternatively, you can create your own board by painting a piece of wood with black chalk paint as explained in this chalkboard tutorial. Have a tub of chalk nearby so that your child can use the board to write special upcoming dates or things that they need to remember for school.

Cozy Cushions

From donut pillows to pillow doorstops, you really can’t go wrong with cushions. Not only are they easy to make but they can help to bring a fresh pop of color into the bedroom. Go for pretty fabrics that fit in well with the color scheme of the room and customize them with embroidery and appliques for something special. Check out these online cushion making tutorials that include no-sew pillows and recycled sweater pillows for some fresh inspiration.

Butterfly Mobile

A fun craft project that you can make using just a few craft items is a butterfly mobile. To create one at home, you will need a butterfly shaped hole punch, a miniature hole punch, string, and some pretty ribbon. Start by cutting out butterfly shaped pieces of card or paper. You can choose to use all the same color or mix it up for a multicolored mobile. Then pierce small holes in the butterfly cut-outs and thread them on different length pieces of string. Finally, attach the string onto a ribbon which you can use to secure the mobile on the ceiling.

Photo Frame Wall

Display your precious memories with a fabulous photo frame wall. Use photo frames of different shapes, sizes, and colors and fill them with photos of family, friends, holidays, and special occasions for your child to admire in their room. You can even encourage your kids to get crafty and decorate the frames with paint and embellishments for something unique.

With a dash of ingenuity and a little creative flair, you will be able to bring some designer style into your child’s bedroom without breaking the bank. Enjoy!
