First try updating a vanity with new wallpaper. It’s fairly easy and a fast refresher for a bathroom that’s in need of a new color and pattern. You can do this in several steps:
Remove Hinges and Door Pulls
First use a screwdriver to remove any hinges and door pulls. After that lay the doors on a flat surface and fill any of the detailing with wood filler. After the filler is dried, use medium-grit sanding which will smooth out the surface. Next find your wallpaper primer and use this to surface the doors.
Measure the Vanity’s Base
For the second step you’ll need to use a tape measure to figure out what the width and height of the vanity base. After you have your measurements written down you can reference the dimensions while rolling out your wallpaper so that you later cut the wallpaper correctly. Use a pencil to mark the dimensions and level everything out. After you have the dimensions written out on the wallpaper it’s time to cut the wallpaper carefully along your dimension lines while using a utility knife.
Paste the Wallpaper on to the Doors
Lastly, it’s time to paste your wallpaper on to the doors, but first be careful and protect the area you are working on with a drop cloth. Lay the piece of the wallpaper that you cut back side up on the flat surface and then pour the wallpaper paste into a bucket and dip the paintbrush in there. When you start painting it’s important to paint an even layer of the paste on the back of the wallpaper. For the last step in this process fold both ends of the wallpaper in the middle and wait around five minutes for the paste to fully dry.
Attach the Wallpaper to the Doors and Base
After you’re done waiting five minutes unfold the wallpaper and press it directly on to the door. Repeat this process piece by piece and wrap the wallpaper around to the back of the vanity. You can smooth out any air bubbles that may take place by using a smoothing tool. Wipe off any remaining residue with a damp cloth and also cut away any excess wallpaper with your utility knife. Using your paint brush, apply the paste directly to the vanity base. Press it firmly in place and then repeat this process with each piece. Again cut away an extra with your knife, wipe off any residue with a cloth, and smooth out the air bubbles with a smoothing tool.
You’re almost done! For the last step use a screwdriver to attach the hinges to the doors and vanity base. Find a drill bit and drill holes for the door pulls and install the door pulls with your screwdriver. One project is down and this should give you the motivation to tackle many more projects to make your bathroom a stunning reflection of you!
