Guest Article – Three Elements That Will Lessen Home Renovation Stress

March 18, 2014

When planning a major room or home renovation, it’s easy to get caught up in the design and creative elements of the project. However, there are also a lot of logistical elements to secure in order to make the home renovation go as smoothly as possible and eliminate stress for you and your family. Securing these elements may not be the most fun part about the renovation, but they are necessary to make the fun parts more fun. Here are a few elements you’ll likely want to think through before beginning the renovation.

Where You Will Live During Renovation

A kitchen or bathroom renovation can be a major inconvenience, especially if it extends for more than a few weeks. You’ll need to think through how to create a makeshift kitchen for you to use during renovation, so you don’t have to spend a ridiculous amount of money eating out during that time – money you could be using toward your dream renovation. Likewise, hopefully your house has a second bathroom, but if there are many members in your household, you may want to set up a bathroom schedule to eliminate conflict later and make sure everyone has the prep time they need to be ready for the day.

A Large Dumpster

Any renovation will require some type of dumpster. The more major the renovation, the bigger the dumpster should be. You’ll be surprised at how quickly the dumpster gets filled, so be sure to anticipate what your needs will be and go a little bigger than that. Having the dumpster emptied multiple times can be costly. Philadelphia dumpster rental service has a lot of information on how much a rental should cost and how to choose what you’ll need. Get the old items out of there right away, so you can make room for the new.

Dust Blockers

A one-room renovation can make your whole home feel dirty if you don’t take the precautions to protect the rest of your home from dust and dirt. Before you begin, invest in a few elements to keep the dust and dirt from migrating to other areas of your home. This is possible with plastic hanging in each doorway, or even closing off one part of your home until the renovation is finished. Do what you need to do to maintain your sanity during a renovation.
