There are so many great shows on the air anymore that it’s hard to keep up with them. I have several that I watch and don’t miss an episode of. One of my favorites is returning from its midseason break this weekend: The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead, based off a successful comic of the same name, is a highly acclaimed show on AMC about survivors of the zombie apocalypse & has an all-star cast including Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride. While the show is full of zombies (walkers), the primary focus is on the survivors. Let’s do a quick Recap what’s happened so far this season. You can get caught up on previous seasons online with Time Warner Internet.
The first half of the season saw many changes within the group. Rick (Lincoln) stepped down as group leader so that he could focus on his son and baby daughter. His son had gotten too desensitized to all the violence and had shot someone in cold blood at the end of the previous season. The group was now lead by a council, and Rick was happy to no long have any leadership responsibility.
Soon a deadly influenza starts spreading which leads to a walker outbreak in the prison where the group is living. Meanwhile, someone has been feeding rats to walkers outside the fence, getting them to swarm at weak points in order to knock it down. Then two members are murdered who were sick from the influenza. A group is sent out to look for medicine while the sick are quarantined. Rick is forced to take over as leader again, and begins looking into the murders and fence sabotage. He notices how different Carol (McBride) has been acting and finds out she is secretly teaching the children about knives. He takes her out on a supply run and after witnessing more odd/cold behavior, confronts her about the murders. She calmly admits she did it in order to stop the spread of infection and doesn’t feel any remorse. Since she is a threat to the group, Rick makes her leave.
During all this, The Governor (wonderfully played by David Morrissey) has infiltrated another group and taken it over. He blames Rick for the fall of Woodbury (the previous season), even though he was the one that killed his own people. After taking two hostages, he leads an attack the prison. The attack destroys a good part of the prison and draws in hundreds of walkers. The Governors’ group is wiped out, and he is killed by his lover Lily. Rick’s group is forced to split up and flee.
The season so far has been great and has had some pretty shocking moments. I can’t wait to see what will happen next. The Walking Dead returns Sunday on AMC. You can watch the first half of the season via On Demand on Time Warner Cable.
