Natural Treatments for Eczema

May 1, 2013

Anyone who has suffered from eczema knows that finding a solution to reduce the appearance and existence of it can be life-changing. It’s difficult to face the world when you don’t feel confident about the appearance of your skin when the world already has such unrealistic standards for beauty. Many remedies for eczema are expensive or harsh, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find a solution that will reduce or even heal your eczema.

What is Eczema?
Eczema is a skin condition that manifests in dry, red, cracked, itchy patches of skin. While many eczema sufferers only struggle throughout their childhood and then grow out of it, there are a strong percentage of people who experience it into adulthood. The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but many believe it’s caused by an overcompensation in the body to an irritant. It’s typically found in families that have a history of other allergies or asthma. Many cases of eczema result in minor itching, but more severe sufferers experience open wounds and oozing sores and are forced to wear bandages to protect their skin from infection. Eczema is often attributed to some sort of food or airborne allergy and can be minimized by determining the allergens and adjusting accordingly. Most eczema sufferers resort to using pharmaceuticals pills, creams, or steroids.

Starflower Oil

Starflower oil has shown in several studies to reduce and even heal the sores caused by eczema. Eczema sufferers have reported that taking one capsule in the morning and one capsule in the evening completely cleared up the painful cracking of their eczema, reducing it only to a minor annoyance that can be controlled through hand creams. High-quality starflower oil supplements and more information are available through Seven Seas.

In addition to helping relieve eczema, starflower oil is a powerful anti-inflammatory, and it has been shown to help patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Individuals suffering from cystic fibrosis have also reported improvement in breathing when taking starflower oil.

Other Natural Solutions
Others have reported that they’ve seen improvement in their eczema when consistently drinking oolong tea, taking cod liver oil, hemp seed oil, or brewer’s yeast. Many have reported that eliminating processed foods or fruits and vegetables that may have been chemically sprayed reduces the severity of eczema. Minimizing stress and integrating more exercise into daily life have also proven to be effective. However, sweating can act as a trigger or further irritate eczema, so be sure to exercise moderately or shower directly afterward.
