TV Review – Southern Charm

A few days ago, I was invited by Sverve to live tweet during this weeks new episode of Southern Charm.  Southern Charm is a new reality series on Bravo that follows six friends, all from aristocratic & super rich families.

I have never watched the show before, let alone heard of it.  After checking out the official website, I thought that I would be ready to jump in at mid-season and be able to follow along.  Nope.  I could barely keep up with the all of the drama going on between the characters.  Basically, all the main cast does is eat, drink & go through sexual partners like I go through socks.  The guys are all in their 30s & 40s, and pine after 20 year olds…mostly because they are too immature to attract women their own age.

The episode focused mostly on the relationship between Thomas & Kathryn.  Kathryn is actually a non-cast member who is only on the show because she is dating Thomas.  She ends up stealing the spotlight from the two main female leads because they came off as relatively normal (at least in what I saw tonight) and not nuts like she did.  Kathryn took Thomas to meet her parents, who are the same age as he is (awkward!).  Kathryn herself doesn’t look much older than 16, so there is a major creep factor there.   Later, Kathryn tells the girls she is purposely trying to get pregnant so that he will marry her.  She even says that “She’s beautiful and has lots of eggs and men love it”.  There are also multiple arguments about who has slept with whom, and even some house hunting for a “stabbin’ cabin” (I kid you not).

Overall….well…I don’t necessarily want to call it a train wreck, but it’s almost there.  I sat there with my mouth hanging open through most of it.  I will say that it is not as bad as Keeping Up with the Kardashians being that I watched the entire episode.  I do want to watch the season finale next Monday just so I can poke fun chat about it on Twitter again.  You can check out more about the show by visiting it’s Bravo page.

Though I was invited to participate in the live tweet, I received no compensation for it or for this post.
