Book Review – S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim by Cynthia Sass

May 10, 2012

Last week, I was sent a copy of S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim by Cynthia Sass.  The diet book has been a New York Times best-seller, and has just released a paperback edition.  The plan covers 30 days and is in two parts.  The first part is a 5-day Fast Forward option that can help you lose up to 8 pounds.  These second part covers the rest of the month and gets you onto a set eating schedule with lots of great food choices.

There is quite a bit to this plan, so I’m just going to hit the basics.  The core of the diet plan is called the 5-Piece Puzzle.  You learn to structure you’re meals around having one item from each of these groups: produce, whole grains, lean portion, plant-based fat and SASS (usually a spice).  The book has numerous recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.  All you have to do is pick the ones you want to eat for the day, and then stick with it.  It also covers all the foods you can eat, and all the ones you can’t.  Foods that are cut include red meat, soda, and alcohol.
The 5-Day option is a little stricter, sticking to items like spinach, almonds and organic eggs, and is not for everyone.  You will be eating the same meals all five days, and will be drinking plenty of fluids.  Recipes are included and you must not deviate from them.  Also included is a very handy shopping list that covers you for the whole five days.
Overall, this is a pretty solid plan.  It’s similar to the low-carb plan I had to go on during my pregnancy.  All the recipes look really good, and there are item replacement options if you need them.  I’m definetly going to give it a try.  The book is available on Amazonin both print and Kindle versions.  You can learn more about the plan and Cynthia at her website.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review through the One2One Network.
