I was recently sent a copy of Grove Kid Nation’s newest CD, Music in Motion. Groove Kid Nation is a children’s music label founded by Rodney Lee. The idea behind the label is to introduce young children to various musical instruments by listening to fun kids songs. Music in Motion features the Kool Catz, who preform the music and guide children in dances and learning.
I was interested in listening to the music, but didn’t know what to expect. Most of the kids stuff I’ve heard before are either goofy and weird, or like that Kidz Bop crap (half of the songs on Kidz Bop aren’t even appropriate for kids…not matter how much they water down the lyrics). However, the CD far exceeded my expectations.
Surprisingly, all of the songs are mostly original jazz and funk compositions. I found myself swaying with the beat of the music from the moment it started. Even Hannah got into it and was dancing around the kitchen. The songs feature a variety of instruments, including drums, pianos, and flutes. The characters encourage you to dance and follow the beat, as well as play air guitar and other fun activities. You can also visit the Groove Kid Nation and download extra activities as well that go along with the CD.
Overall, I really love the music. It’s something that both Hannah and I can enjoy together. I look forward to seeing her really start to follow along as she gets older. Groove Kid Nation also has another CD called Wheels on the Bus, which I think I’ll get Hannah for Christmas. The CD prices vary a bit depending on where you buy them at. They are $13.98 if you buy them direct from Groove Kid Nation, and $16.04 on Amazon. If your interested in learning more about Groove Kid Nation and their music, or want to purchase a CD, you can visit their website.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
